New Zealand has a reputation for innovation at the farm gate, and Fieldays has become a natural occasion for some of those innovations to announce themselves to the world.

 

With this in mind, we were inspired to set up The Lab in back in 2014. A space where we could offer our expertise and provide a hub for mentoring entrants of the Innovations Centre & Awards.

Today, the Lab partners bring together experts from across the range of innovation, including product development, business development, intellectual property, and funding. We’re there to mentor the latest and greatest innovators coming out of our country. So without further ado, the Lab team for 2017.

The Origin IP team partner with clients at a range of levels from turn-key intellectual property strategy and management through to cost effective IP registration services.

Callaghan Innovation is the New Zealand government’s business innovation agency. Their purpose is to grow and diversify the New Zealand economy by helping businesses develop and commercialise technology. Callaghan Innovation takes its name and inspiration from Sir Paul Callaghan, one of New Zealand’s greatest scientists and a champion of business innovation as key to growing our economy.

They provide a single front door to the innovation system for businesses at all stages of their innovation journey – from start-ups to the most experienced R&D performers.

Enterprise Angels – Angel Investment

Enterprise Angels (EA) is a unique model of early stage investing with a professional management team and nearly 200 Angel Investors, making it the largest investment group of its kind in NZ. They facilitate investment into start-up companies with unique innovation and global scale and, through their team and members, add real value as well as capital to investee companies. They invest in IT technology, predominantly in agri-tech, food, hort-tech and biotech companies.

The EA team have succeeded, and failed(!), enough to know what you need to have the best chance of raising capital from angel investors. They can discuss what stage your company is in, and what you need to do to prepare your company to become investment ready and attractive to angel investors.

Vodafone Xone – Innovation Start-ups

Vodafone xone is a startup accelerator for globally-focussed Kiwi tech entrepreneurs, with opportunities to partner with Vodafone and its global business networks. Based in the Christchurch Innovation Precinct, xone is also an innovation lab, in partnership with Callaghan Innovation, which provides tech, support, and resources for NZ companies, as well as workshops, events and more.

They can provide start-up advice based on real start-up experience in strategy, finance/funding, product, culture, and marketing, as well as technology advice, including IoT and software.
