Fieldays: a how-to guide

There is no right or wrong way of doing Fieldays. Having done a few ourselves we do have some tips and tricks to share to make sure it is a smooth ride.

Warm up and be ready to walk and talk

Fieldays is held in mid-June, so expect some misty cold starts and crisp sunny afternoons. We recommend you get yourself ready by warming up with some on the spot knee lifting and windmill arm movements. Slip on some thick socks, a merino, scarf, and a woolly hat (gloves optional). Layers are key for the mix of warm and cold weather typical of winter in the Waikato. Some people swear by gumboots, others go for solid walking shoes or track boots. Either way leave your shiny shoes behind, this is not a fancy affair.

Bonus tip: Nike Roshes may not survive Fieldays. And neither will your toes if you choose to wear them. It’s cold.

Plan your trip

Being the biggest agricultural trade show in the southern hemisphere, you will not be the only one visiting this event. This means that you’ll be wise to explore your travel options and timing.

If you can car-pool in or consider taking the bus, a helicopter or boat even (this is actually an option!). For more information visit the Fieldays website here. Driving in? Here is a quick link to Google Maps.

Don’t forget your ticket 😉 (buy onlinee or at the door)

Getting around – there’s an app for that!

Trying to tackle the entire Fieldays offering in one day is quite an ambitious undertaking — potentially not even possible. We always try to catch all the excitement and still miss out on the some of the good stuff and we are here for the full 4 day event!

It is worthwhile checking out the Fieldays website beforehand, or even better, download the Fieldays app. This way you can check out events and figure out where your favourite exhibitors are hiding out.

Don’t want to stare at your phone more than you have to? No worries, there are plenty information station around and you can also buy a Fieldays program which contains the maps and plenty more. You can also simply follow your nose — it has led us to some great finds and delicious food 😉

Download the app from the App Store or Google Play.

Money money money

Fieldays is a modern event, no need to bring your coins. Most vendors (food and clothing — yes this is where you can get your Swandry) take EFTPOS, but there are also ATM machines, mobile EFTPOS, and cash-out facilities throughout the site.
