Louis Vuitton Pacific Series Lounges
Auckland’s hosting of the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series (LVPS) in February 2009 provided the perfect opportunity for a showcase of New Zealand design to an international audience.
COAST TO COAST
Held in February of 2009, the regatta series brought the world’s best sailors to our doorstep and with them the opportunity to showcase a range of NZ design, in particular, a set of aptly themed products from Coast New Zealand.
The Locus team had recently finished work with to revamp their Cayo outdoor collection. Later that year, founder Alex Webster called us in to put forward a VIP lounge proposal for the new sailing challenge. Adding a bit of variety to the mix, this project provided the team at Locus with a different avenue for our creative skills.
GETTING INTO PLACE
The brief was to create two interior spaces for the world-renowned sponsors; one was to function as an exclusive VIP lounge and the other a relaxation area for the sailors and their families to use during the series.
We worked with Alex to create a compelling design proposal that excited the LV team. The concept sought to create a coastal environment that aligned with the ‘simple elegance’ that embodies the Louis Vuitton brand. The concept was a perfect fit for Coast’s Cayo collection, which the team installed as the centrepiece in both lounges during the series.
HIGHLIGHTING KIWI DESIGN
Other New Zealand brands were also featured, with lights designed by David Trubridge, hanging Pollen planters. Spaces were defined by with platforms using Verda timber decking and partitions created from Doyle Sails.
An additional area outdoor patio on the waterfront was created to make the most of the summer weather. It also gave the sailors a chance to interact with the many spectators who visited the Viaduct during the series.
The success of both lounges was apparent in their frequent use throughout the regatta by both guests of Louis Vuitton and the sailors themselves, with positive responses garnered from many different sources.
“We are excited about the series and being back in Auckland… I am particularly delighted to be able to provide guests and sailors with such a stunning hospitality area.”
