Angel Equity Takes Flight

Product commercialisation is an exciting place to be; we see an abundance of ideas and businesses come through the Locus office, and without exception, funding is a key challenge for all of them.

Raising the capital required to take a product to market is probably the single most important and most stressful hurdle to establishing a successful business. The Enterprise Angels (EA) have long been a key partner of Locus’ for sourcing this critical funding for the start-up companies we work with.

In recognition of this engagement, Locus has been a corporate partner with EA since 2015. This partnership has already seen the introduction of a capital event at this year’s Fieldays event. And, as of this week, our main partnership project is live — the newly launched Angel Equity capital raising platform.

Angel Equity is an innovative new tool, developed to make it more efficient to connect New Zealand’s Angel Investors, with start-up investee companies. Angel Equity is a unique take on equity crowdfunding, bringing together sophisticated investors with vetted, high-quality investee companies. The point of difference is that Angel Equity will be solely focused on eligible wholesale and angel investors and the deals presented will go through a detailed due diligence process before being presented for offer. Once verified and launched on the website, investors are able to view key company information and commit to investments.

Locus has been heavily engaged in bringing the new Angel Equity platform to reality, working closely with the EA team right from inception to deployment. We did the heavy lifting for the visual design of the platform, including the Angel Equity name and brand identity. Being a core development partner for three young companies who have successfully raised funds through Enterprise Angels, we’re excited to see this made available to New Zealand investors at large.

Roholm, the company behind the Inverse Hair Conditioning System, is one of the first businesses to raise funds through this new platform. Roholm has been one of our major product development engagements over the last two years, alongside Ubco Ltd and Balex Marine, so we are excited to see it become one of the first cabs off the rank for Angel Equity.

Head to the Angel Equity website to check out the newly launched platform and deals. If you’re interested in becoming a wholesale investor as defined by the FMCA, you can sign up and start investing.
